Hector Lionel Alfaro Lakewood, CA — A tragic incident unfolded Thursday morning in Lakewood, leaving three members of a family dead in what authorities are describing as a murder-suicide.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded at approximately 7:55 a.m. to a home on the 5800 block of Lorelei Avenue, near South Street, following reports of an assault with a deadly weapon. Deputies arrived to find a 19-year-old woman outside the home, visibly distraught but unharmed. She was later interviewed at the Lakewood Sheriff’s Station. Officials confirmed she is not a suspect or person of interest in the case.

Inside the residence, deputies discovered Hector Lionel Alfaro, 52, lying in the den with a gunshot wound to his upper torso. Alfaro’s 48-year-old wife was found in a bedroom, also with a gunshot wound to the torso. In a second bedroom, deputies located the couple’s 17-year-old daughter, who had suffered a gunshot wound to the upper torso. All three were pronounced dead at the scene.

According to authorities, the 19-year-old eldest daughter had been asleep when the shooting began. Alfaro reportedly appeared armed near her, firing multiple shots; she was unharmed. He then shot himself in her presence.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department confirmed that no other individuals were transported to a hospital and that the scene was cleared by 8:51 a.m.

Sheriff’s officials stated that a gun was recovered at the home and emphasized that there is no threat to the public. Lakewood police described the incident as isolated, noting the city remains one of the safest in Los Angeles County.

“This is obviously a tragedy,” said Sheriff’s Capt. Daniel Holguin. “While this will affect our community deeply, it appears to be an isolated incident with no ongoing safety concerns.”
